Have been with Sky TV for years (so long that I can't actually remember how many!) and have always been impressed with their service. This was reinforced during my recent house move. All I had to do was call up and let them know I was moving and they arranged for an engineer to sort everything out for me. Brilliant!

How to fix a Sky+ HD box which is stuck on standby


How to fix a Sky+ HD box which is stuck on standby

Is your Sky+ HD box stuck on standby? Or displaying a continuous or flickering red/amber light? If so, follow the below guide to help you fix the problem

1. Check your remote
a) Press Sky on your remote control. You should see a green light appear on the front panel of your Sky HD+ box
b) Check the menus and TV channels to make sure your remote control and Sky+ HD box is still working
NOTE : if the standby light remains red, your Sky+ HD box is not responding to the remote

2. Check your Sky+ HD box
a) Press standby on your box. You should see a green light appear on the front panel
NOTE: if the standby light remains red, there is an issue with the box and if the standby light goes green there might be an issue with your remote.

3. Reboot your Sky+ HD box
a) Turn off or unplug your box at the mains
b) Turn any other connected devices (e.g. TV) to standby and then turn them off at the mains
c) Check the power light on your box is off and check that all other connected devices are off
d) Switch everything back on including your TV. The red power light on your Sky+ HD box should come back on
e) Wait for around 3 minutes and then press Sky on your remote to switch the box on. You should see a green light on the front panel of your box
NOTE: if your box is still displaying a red light, the problem is not fixed and you should continue to the next step.

4. Download the Sky+ HD Box software
a) Turn off your Sky+ HD box at the mains
b) Turn any other connected devices (e.g. TV) to standby and then turn them off at the mains
c) Check the power light on your box is off and check that all other connected devices are off
d) Press and hold the Backup button on your Sky+ HD box (it’ll be on top of the box or on the front panel)
e) Switch your Sky+ HD box back on at the mains (you need to keep holding down the backup button and switch it back on at the mains at the same time)
f) Keep pressing the Backup button until you see all four lights on the front panel illuminate
g) Release the Backup button – your box is now in download mode
h) Reconnect the other connected devices, including TV, and switch them back on
i) You might see a ‘Updating System Software’ message on your TV screen
j) It should take around 10 minutes for the software download to be complete – once it is, the Sky+ HD box will turn itself off and show a single red light
k) After around three minutes, press the Sky button on your remote to switch the box back on. You should see a green light display on the front panel of the box.
NOTE: if the download completes but you’ve still got issues with your box you’ll need to contact Sky customer services 0844 453 5119

 

How to program your Sky remote to control your TV

1. Make a note of the make and model of your TV and the version number of your Sky remote (that is on the stick on the inside of the remote’s battery cover).
2. Lookup your code on the Sky website: http://sky.uebv.com/
3. Press TV on your Sky remote then hold down Select and the Red button until the red light on the remote has flashed twice
4. Enter the code and press the Select button

You’re now all set up to control your TV with your Sky remote! If you’re still having issues with using your Sky remote to control your TV you should contact Sky customer services.

 

How to set up or reset your Sky TV PIN

What is a Sky TV pin? It’s the four digit code which lets you access age restricted content. This can include pay-per view Box Office events, Sky Store Movies and interactive services. With your Sky TV PIN you can also restrict the programmes and channels that kids can watch on your Sky TV.

1. You’ve forgotten or want to change/reset your PIN
a) Press Interactive on your remote
b) Scroll down and select Reset your PIN
c) Enter the last four digits of your credit card number / Sky account number / bank account number
d) Enter a new four digit PIN and press Select
e) Re-enter your new PIN number to confirm it and press Select

2. You don’t know your PIN (you’re a new customer)
Your original PIN is the last four digits of your Sky viewing card number. You can find your viewing card number by following these steps:
a) Press the Services button
b) Select Settings
c) Select System Details
d) Your nine digit viewing card number will be displayed
e) The last four digits of this umber are your TV PIN
